Fresh African Plum
For non-Africans people, “Plum” fruit mean something else. But for Africans and non-Africans, who tasted it, it is an exotic, delicious and looking purple fruit. You can easily find it grilled at road-side stalls alongside usually with maize, yam, sweet potatoes and plantains. It is surprisingly pleasant, with the smooth texture of a ripe avocado and a sharp, savory, citrus taste. The Plum of Africa (Dacryodes edulis), a tree species native to the humid tropical farm in Africa, has almost as many uses as it has shapes, sizes and names. Also known as African plum, Bush Pear, Safou or Safoutier and Prune (in French), it is traditionally collected in the forest, especially between April and October.
Simply taste and enjoy!
